Bio

子供頃、ものづくりと絵画の興味が湧く、高校から大学の8年間アメリカに芸術を学べ、絵画を専攻しました。卒業後、出身地の香港に戻り、就職しましたが、卒業制作時に出会った日本伝統紋様と友禅技法が忘られず、仕事を退職して京都伝統工芸大学校に入学し、日本伝統文化と京友禅の技術を勉強ししました。芸術経験を活かし特独な作品を制作しています。

Original form Hong Kong attained her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Maryland Institute College of Art majoring in painting with printmaking concentration. She used to live and study in Idyllwild, CA and Baltimore, MD, USA. Her works was deeply inspire by the Pattern and Design movement, which later leaded to her interest in one of the traditional Japan dying technique, Yuzen some. 

Now based in Japan, Winnie is practicing and improving her silks in Kyo-Yuzen. 

About her works

Grown up in the dense and highly develops “Concrete Forest”, Hong Kong, Winnie Wong constantly find herself in thinking about the relationship between human and nature. By painting different juxtaposition of imagery, her works explore and re-examine her cultural identity as well as our positions toward the surrounding environment through worldwide patterns.
